Jenny Holzer came to Providence to create a temporary light installation titled “Jenny Holzer Presents For: RISD”. The performance was at night during Water Fire - a Providence tradition created by artist Barnaby Evans where the Providence River is filled with floating metal bowls which contain burning wood. That really doesn’t explain the wonder of these events, the music, the fire and the scent of burning wood which you can smell all over Providence. The events are becoming less of an art happening and more of a night out for hot dogs, dough boys and those twirly glow in the dark sticks. The Jenny Holzer installation added another element to the evening. The photo above is from an installation in Venice, my camera was missing it’s memory card. I think I need my own memory card so I won’t forget things like this. A beautiful night. Our little four month old was mesmerized by the fires. He didn’t say much the whole evening. Unusual for him.
