Samantha Cotteril

October 5, 2009

I discovered these whimsical wool felt & lambswool creations by Samantha Cotterill while looking for handmade dolls. Faye made a sock-monkey, we call him Marcus {here’s a picture of the very dapper Marcus}, and I was looking for more handmade dolls to inspire her. Samantha’s work has an instant-classic feel, some little child somewhere will enjoy giving life to one of her creatures. Then again, the craftsmanship and narrative is so well crafted, they could also live on a shelf as a work of art. Either way, they are full of life and I’m curious to learn more about their stories. Who are those guys? What’s inside the milk house?

You can buy these creatures - they’re remarkably affordable - at Samantha’s etsy shop - the shop is called Mummysam.

Samantha says:

A painter in my pre-kids days, I have taken on a new medium of fibers as I try to bring art back into my life while raising two wee ones…..all of my pieces are made from 100% pure wool felt and pure lambswool stuffing.
